AccorHotels’ ibis Styles economy brand has entered the U.S., with the opening of a hotel in New York. Locally based Peter Poon Architects redesigned the former LaGuardia Airport Hotel, which will serve as the brand’s flagship in the country.
“As the AccorHotels portfolio grows in North America, I’m very proud to announce the first ibis Styles hotel in the U.S.," says Kevin Frid, chief operating officer, North & Central America, for the Paris-based hotelier. “ibis Styles has already seen much success in Europe and South America, and we anticipate the brand to be a standout in New York as well.”
The designers drew inspiration from the city’s subway system to create the 93-key hotel’s new look. In-wall lobby seating, throw pillows and artwork take cues from the colorful emblems, stations and route maps found throughout that underground transportation hub.
Guest rooms at ibis Styles New York LaGuardia Airport also reference the different subway lines—green, yellow, red and blue—and feature walls decorated with maps of the transit system. Amenities include the Metrocard Lounge, which serves street-inspired snacks.
There are currently 369 mid-size ibis Styles hotels in 36 countries. Comprised of ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget, the brand group’s expansion plans for the Americas includes seven new hotels in Mexico this year and next.
